London’s Calling

Sympli Cook-offRecently, our very own Sean Tracey crossed the Big Pond to direct the Sympli sponsored “Yam Cook-Off” TV program. Being Sean’s first time visiting the capital of England, he was able to see iconic sites like Big Ben and catch a play at the historic Queen’s Theatre with his wife (and fellow STA team member), Lina.

Gita Mattes, of Brand Momentum, and a long time client of Sean Tracey Associates, asked Sean to direct the show, knowing all about his TV show background and his passion for film and food. The competition itself showcases Sympli’s new cubed yams and plantains that are cut, prepped, flash frozen and ready to cook—and really tasty. The TV show is part of a huge product introduction into the U.K. The products will be brought to the U.S. and Canada in early 2017.

The cook-off challenged two famed African chefs, Esther John and Joseph Gatonve, to create the best dish using the yams as the star ingredient, in under 30 minutes. Now that’s impressive! The show was shot on location in the culinary classroom of the Jamie Oliver Cookery with a lively and packed audience. The space limitation was challenging, but Sean was able to get 7 cameras on set and successfully run the shoot with limited props and in only 7 hours of filming.

Sean was asked if he could direct the next brand commercial that will display the Sympli products used in more African recipes, but this time in the kitchens of everyday American households. This is the strategic first step in bringing the African cuisine brand to the U.S. market.

The cook-off has already helped to elevate and strengthen the Sympli brand in the U.K through promo videos produced by STA. Don’t miss the chance to see it for yourself, while picking up new recipes to add to your cookbook. The competition is scheduled to air Sunday, October 23rd at 8 p.m. UTC on BEN TV. The competition is hosted by the fiery personality of the popular Nigerian actress, Ngozi Thompson and cool finesse of DJ Abass. Be sure to tune in and for all those in the U.S., stream it live through Ben TV’s website.

Now we just have to wait for Sympli products to cross the Big Pond! We’re hungry.
